Gone kanje: Lawrence Mabona sacked
Gone just like that. A leaked Jacaranda All Stars letter shows the Executive Committee has relieved Lawrence Khuwa Mabona of his responsibilities, with Thabang "Becks" Maphelo handed the technical reins for the rest of the season.
A letter from the Jacaranda All Stars Executive Committee, dated 17 September 2026 and headed "Official Club Communication", has leaked — and with it, the news that Lawrence Khuwa Mabona has been relieved of his responsibilities within the club's technical team.
Gone kanje. Gone just like that, with the season still running.
Following careful consideration, Jacaranda All Stars Executive Committee has resolved to relieve Lawrence Khuwa Mabona of his responsibilities within the club's technical team.
According to the letter, Thabang "Becks" Maphelo takes over the technical leadership for the remainder of the season, with what the committee describes as the full support and mandate of management and the players.
The committee puts the decision down to the club's strategic approach to leadership development and to creating opportunities for younger members — not, on the letter's telling, to anything that has happened on the field.
The letter is careful with Mabona. It acknowledges his contribution, singling out his role in helping Jacaranda All Stars maintain their status across all competitions, and says he remains a respected member of the club who will continue to be part of it.
It closes by saying the Executive Committee remains focused on unity, development and the continued progress of Jacaranda All Stars.
Everything above is drawn from the leaked letter, reproduced on this page. Jacaranda All Stars have not issued the communication publicly, and the club is welcome to respond here.
